Bengali New Year Recipes

Bengali New Year or Poyela Boishakh is the first day of the Bengali schedule, celebrated in West Bengal. Bengali New Year is welcomed by the Bengalis with large amount grandeur in the month of April. On this day, women are dressed in the traditional red and white sari while men dress in dhoti kurta to take part in the early on morning processions called 'Prabhat Pheries'. Lord Ganesha and Goddess Laxmi are worshipped for well-being while good wishes of 'Shubo Nabo Barsho' are exchanged. It is a festival of food. Many townspeople begin the day with the traditional breakfast of panta bhat (rice soaked in water), green chillies, onion, and fried hilsa fish.
